mdadm --grow /dev/md1 --raid-devices=1 --force
ZyXEL always creates a raid array, even with single disk volumes. So when the degraded array is solved, you have a normal ZyXEL setup.it is no raid 1 anymore with this hard drive
The reason that always an array is created, is, I think, to simplify the firmware (no exceptions in volumes), and the possibility to easily convert a single disk volume to raid1. That wouldn't be possible if it wasn't an array already.
